Sometimes I wish the internet was not a thing. I miss the days when you could reliably watch tv (as a kid) once a week. I miss the fact that news was delivered on TV – not a thousand different ways to exploit human attention. I miss TV. Before a million options, tv stations, countries, Kardiashian bullshit. I miss changing the channel. I miss the tv station going down after midnight. Sometimes I even miss not being able to use a remote control. The actual requirement to get off your ass and change the fucking channel!
Ahhh…. memory lane. Sitting in front of the TV set at my uncle and aunt’s house. I just woke up after a night spent with my cousins. Sitting with my bowl of cereal, waiting for “Gummi Bears” to be on ABC. By the way – super cute recommendation to watch if you have Disney +.
The excitement, knowing that you waited an entire week for that. You suffered through classes and painful conversations with adults. Just for that beautiful color cartoon to bring you into the world of… Saturday morning cartoons.
I miss it because – those (to me) seemed like simpler times. Less choices, but you looked forward to the choices you had. I think the digital generations are going to be filled with entitlement as a result of getting anything you want with a poke of a screen. A payment method, and a mailing address.
